A decrease in Richmond Power & Light’s Energy Cost Adjustment rate will save customers seven cents for each 1,000 kilowatt hours used during the year’s fourth quarter.

General Manager Tony Foster presented the change to his board, which is comprised of Richmond Common Council members, during its Sept. 5 meeting. The board approved the change 8-0.

RP&L changes the ECA each quarter to reconcile the fluctuation of energy costs that RP&L pays. The rate for the fourth quarter is 1.65898 cents for each kilowatt hour, costing customers about $16.59 per 1,000 kilowatt hours used. The fourth-quarter decline follows a third-quarter increase of $0.003378 during the third quarter.

Customers’ base rates do not change.

RP&L now presents the ECA to its board for approval because it withdrew this year from the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission.

During the meeting, the board also voted 8-0 to allow RP&L to receive bids for a 2024 pickup truck for its engineering department.

Foster also congratulated Ashley Holston, an accounts payable clerk, for her selection to the 2023 cohort of the Wayne County Area Chamber of Commerce’s Wayne County Leads program for young professionals.
