The Richmond Red Devils broke a long dry spell on Saturday, Oct. 14, winning the Connersville cross country sectional for the first time since the 2005 season, and they did so in dominating fashion.

The Red Devils ran 1-2, winning the team title with an impressive score of 40 points, 37 points better than second-place Batesville. RHS senior Alex Orihuela won the event with a time of 16:42.6. Teammate Grayson Farmer sprinted past Bradyn Helton from East Central at the finish line to take second place by less than half a second. Northeastern captured third place and Hagerstown finished fourth behind a fourth-place individual finish from Kaden Young. Both teams will join Richmond at the Shelbyville regional.  

East Central won the girls race, sliding past Batesville. Richmond slipped by Centerville for third place in the team standings. Both Richmond and Centerville qualified to advance to the regional round.
