They’re not just talking turkey at Western Wayne County’s community Thanksgiving dinner. They’re talking mashed potatoes, fellowship, live music and giveaways.
Anyone who lives in the Western Wayne Schools district is invited for the free meal from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 12.
The gathering will take place in Lincoln Middle/High School’s cafeteria, 205 E. Parkway Drive, Cambridge City.
Guests can fill their plates with ham or turkey, green beans, mashed potatoes and dressing. Western Wayne Schools’ cafeteria staff will prepare the meal.
Although there’s no required reservation deadline, organizers encourage those planning to attend to RSVP as soon as possible at wwn.to/wwsctd25 or by calling 765-478-5916.
In addition to gathering a head count in advance, organizers want to learn if specialized assistance is needed. Participants can request meal delivery to their homes if they’d have trouble getting to the school. In addition, those who have mobility challenges can schedule a golf cart ride from their parking spot to the entrance.
“We just want to plan the best we can to accommodate everyone,” said WWS Superintendent Kelly Plank.
This year’s leading sponsors include Sugar Creek, Dot Foods, Rihm Foods and McGowan Insurance. Additional individuals and businesses are encouraged to donate money, gift cards or ingredients to the school in advance to offset costs.
In addition to the meal, WWS will offer its families who need cold-weather gear such as coats, hats and gloves the opportunity to sign up for them that night. School staff will procure them and deliver them at a later date.
