In order to adequately prepare, Wayne County’s public school districts want to have nearly accurate counts for fall preschool and kindergarten enrollment before school lets out for summer.
Thus, many are organizing enrollment events to help kids and parents get acquainted with the building and turn in necessary paperwork.
Although each district handles its own registration, most ask for documents such as birth certificates, immunization records, proof of residency (mortgage or rental statement plus utility bill, tax document or driver’s license) and custody/guardianship paperwork if applicable. Many schools post their required documents on their Facebook page or website, or a list can be obtained by calling the school office.
Parents are encouraged to ask questions and find the program that best fits their child’s needs and their family schedule and budget. Some offer half-day or full-day care or both. Some offer discounted or free preschool tuition for qualifying low-income families.
