Police: Lockout situation resolved at school, no specific threat made

Lincoln Middle/High School and Western Wayne Elementary were on lockout mode Friday for about three hours while police searched for a student who abruptly left LMHS on Friday morning.
Cambridge City Police Chief Richard Roberts said a male student got upset and walked out of class and out of the school for an unknown reason at about 10:30 a.m. A resource officer tried to make contact with the student to learn more about the situation, but the student had left the area.
Police tried to locate the student through the morning.
As a precaution, they put the school on lockout, which means students were free to roam around the school, but no one could enter or exit the buildings. In a lockdown, students and staff are to stay in place.
The student was located Friday afternoon in the Hagerstown area, leading the school to end the lockout at about 1:10 p.m. No one was hurt and no charges will be filed, Roberts said, noting that no specific threat was made to the school.
He said police officers’ main objective was to talk with the student and find out what happened.
Robert said the situation has been resolved, and in this day and age, it’s better to err on the side of caution when it comes to school safety.
Superintendent George Philhower offered similar sentiments in a statement: “An incident occurred earlier today at Lincoln Middle/High school that resulted in school officials taking immediate measures in both buildings including, limiting who was allowed to enter and exit both buildings. School officials were concerned when a student abruptly left the building after making potentially worrisome remarks. The school resource officer assisted local law enforcement to locate the student. All safety measures have been lifted at this time, and all building are currently operating as normal. At no time were Western Wayne students in danger during the events of today.”
