Milton officials aim to raise $50,000 before the end of the year to add pickleball courts, sidewalks and other amenities to its park.

Milton is eligible for a 1:1 matching grant from Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority’s CreatINg Place program if it hits its $50,000 goal before 11 p.m. Dec. 31.

Additions to the Old School Community Park along Indiana 1 would include lighting, landscaping, safety fencing for the playground and a fountain. Sidewalks compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act would connect all quadrants of the park.

Town officials say the new space will lend itself to programming and educational opportunities.

It was formerly the site of the Milton School that was built in 1923.

The school housed elementary and high school classes and recreational events until the 1964 school consolidations. Elementary classes remained there until Western Wayne Elementary School was built. The former school was used for a few years for country and bluegrass concerts and other community events in the early 2000s until it fell into disrepair. It was torn down in 2019.

In 2024, the town raised funds to create a playground, add pavilions/shelters, and complete groundwork for basketball courts. Those projects were completed earlier this year.

Cash or checks can be delivered to the Milton clerk’s office, 101 N. Central Ave., which is open 8 a.m.-1 p.m. weekdays. Checks can be mailed in care of the Town of Milton Park, Fund, P.O. Box 398, Milton, IN 47357. Checks should include “Park Donation” in the memo line.
