Lots of concrete is being poured at Cambridge City’s new performance venue in Creitz Park.
The town council received a construction update during its July 14 meeting before approving a payment of $101,279.80 to Pridemark Construction. Those funds come from an Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs grant.
More work remains on the underside of the structure, including insulation. Another layer underneath will look like wood.
One change had to be made a couple weeks ago to the plan for the new community recreation area, which is just behind Cambridge City Volunteer Fire Department at 127 W. Maple St. A concrete pull-off area along North Green Street had been planned for food trucks, but, the elevation map was inaccurate. When crews started laying sidewalks, they discovered that the area would have been below street level. Thus, food trucks will continue to set up in a grassy area as they have at previous events there.
Recently, Pridemark staff estimated an Aug. 15 completion date for the project, but they’re waiting on Duke Energy for a quote to update the electrical system to three-phase.
Council President Jim McLane said it’s possible to finish the stage without being wired to three-phase electricity, but it’s ideal so musicians can plug directly into it.
Although the stage will be usable soon, no summer events are planned this year. Sod installation is one of the last steps, and the grass needs time to get established without large crowds trampling it.
Thus, Cambridge City Main Street isn’t currently planning any summer concerts there.
McLane said a big celebration will be planned next year to kick off the new venue.
