East Germantown’s clerk-treasurer has retired, and someone new must take on her many duties.
Carleene Collins became the town’s clerk-treasurer in January 2016. Because Collins ran for the position as a Democrat, the Wayne County Democratic Party is tasked with finding Collins’ replacement within 30 days.
The clock began ticking Oct. 1 when Wayne County Clerk Tara Pegg’s office received Collins’ official resignation notice.
Potential candidates need to live within the town’s voting precinct. Because East Germantown only has one precinct, Wayne County Democrats’ chair, Maggie Thomas, can appoint a new clerk-treasurer.
Indiana clerk-treasurers fill many administrative and financial roles, including managing town funds and investments, preparing budget estimates, issuing licenses, compiling meeting minutes, and maintaining town documents.
A full list of Indiana’s requirements for clerk-treasurers is available at iga.in.gov/laws/2019/ic/titles/36/#36-5-6-6
