In Loving Memory of Steven D. Banning
It is with deep sorrow that the family of Steven D. Banning announces his passing. Steve was born on April 5, 1955, to Paul and Dorothy (Shawhan) Banning in Economy, Indiana, and he spent his entire life in the Hagerstown, Indiana, area.
Steve graduated from Hagerstown High School in 1973; he distinguished himself as a wrestler, lettering all four years and advancing to regionals in his weight class during his senior year. He continued his education at Purdue University before embarking on his career.
After college, Steve spent several years farming before working as a machinist and fabricator. His professional journey included positions with Fab-Tech in Cambridge City, Magna Machine & Tool Company in New Castle, and Metaldyne Corporation in New Castle.
Steve always cherished the outdoors. In his youth, he spent much of his time hunting, fishing and trapping. In later years, he enjoyed target shooting at the family range and feeding catfish at the pond on the Banning family farm. His outdoor activities were curtailed in recent years due to poor health.
Steve is survived by his brother Ken (Jill) Banning of Economy, his sisters Paula (Dan) Hollenberg of Economy and Peggy (Mark) Wasicsko of Economy, as well as seven nieces and nephews, several great-nieces and nephews, and close friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and his favorite dog, Sam.
The family has chosen not to hold public calling hours. Private services will be conducted at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor Steve’s memory may consider donating to the Department of Natural Resources Indiana Nongame Wildlife Fund or purchasing an environmental license plate when renewing vehicle registration.
