Mrs. Violet Mae Smith, 95, of Richmond, passed away on Wednesday, January 11. She was born on January 26, 1927 in Richmond, Indiana to Ershal M. & Edythe L. Wycoff Melling.
She was a 1945 graduate of Whitewater High School. Violet married Frank R. Smith on March 19, 1946. They were blessed with two children and 55 years of marriage before his death on December 5, 2001. Violet was a member of the Bethel Christian Church, where she formerly taught Sunday School. She was a member of Bethel Circle of the Ladies Aid Society. She and Frank enjoyed taking day trips, camping and playing Euchre. Violet also enjoyed gardening and canning.
Violet will be missed by her daughter, Carolyn Person; grandchildren, Rhonda & Scott Jenkinson, Amy & Jim York, Staci & Mike Ramey, Josh & Shelley Wolfal, Erin Grasse, Caleb & Jessica Wolfal; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Violet was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Frank; son-in-law, Niles Person; daughter, LuAnn Wolfal, sister, Viola Mullin.
Visitation for Violet will be held from 11:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m. on Monday, January 16 at the Smith-McQuiston & Webster Funeral Home, 321 US 27 South, Fountain City. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, January 16 at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Bethel Cemetery. Condolences may be expressed online at www.smithmcquistonwebster.com .
