Robert Ernst McLear Jr., age 86, of Richmond, Indiana, died Sunday, February 5, 2023, at Reid Health.
Born May 30, 1936, in Indianapolis, Indiana, to Robert E. and Harriett Rossetter McLear Sr., Bob was a life long resident of Richmond. He worked for the Richmond Fire Department for 20 years, owned and operated Renovation Shoe Shop, and worked for Friends Fellowship Community. Bob was an avid golfer. He recorded two holes-in-one and shot his age several times. He loved his family dearly and enjoyed spending time with them. Bob attended many of his grandchildren’s sporting events and was their biggest fan. He was a lifelong member of the Richmond Evening Optimist Club, #1408 Fire Fighters Union, and Liberty Golf Club.
Survivors include his daughters, Sally (James) Baumer of Centerville, Indiana, and Kathy (Chip) Gray of Indianapolis, Indiana; son, Robert (Michelle) McLear III of Batavia, Illinois; daughter-in-law, Judy McLear of Evansville, Indiana; stepson, Jeff (Susan) Cappa of Richmond; ten grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Sharron McLear of Sugar Grove, Illinois and Alice (Leon) Kozlowski of Munster, Indiana; nieces; nephews; and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his son, Michael McLear, who died on September 4, 2016; first wife, Maxine McLear, who died January 24, 2009; second wife, Joyce McLear, who died November 26, 2020; parents; sister, Suzanne Armstrong; and brothers, George “Bud” and Richard McLear.
Visitation for Robert Ernst McLear Jr. will be from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. Saturday, February 11, 2023, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond. Liturgy of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 11, 2023, at Holy Family Catholic Church with Fr. Sengole T. Gnanaraj officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary Catholic Cemetery.
