Matthew Adam Lucas, age 39, passed away on March 11, 2023, in Richmond.  Matthew had been in ill health, but his death was unexpected.  He was born in Connersville on February 6, 1984, the son of Wilma Hamilton Flynn and the late Terry L. Lucas.

Matthew was very passionate about and had a huge heart for animals.  He volunteered regularly at Adopt-A-Dog in Liberty, Help the Animals in Richmond and the Indianapolis Humane Society in the past. He loved to foster dogs and cats until they found their forever home.  He worked at Abington Pines Dog Boarding in Abington, IN.  He was an avid birder and nature photographer and loved to go hiking.  Above all he treasured the time he spent with his family.

Beside his mother, Wilma, his love and memory will be cherished by his partner/fiancé Sarah Koonce; brother, Anthony (Amanda) Lucas and sister Tara (Thomas) Reece.  He will be thought of often by his niece Marley and nephew Theo as well as his dog, Honey and cat, Gracie.

Other than his father, Terry, he is preceded in death by his grandparents, Ralph and Sondra Lucas, Betty Baker and Roscoe Hamilton; and his uncle Michael “Shane” Hamilton.

Friends may gather with the family at Urban Winkler Funeral Home, 513 W 8th Street, Connersville, on Friday March 17, 2023 from 4:00 to 6:00 pm.  Funeral services will be conducted at 6:00 pm.  Cremation was chosen.

The family has requested, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to Adopt-A-Dog, P.O. Box 376, Liberty, IN 47353,
