Charles R Rogers, age 95, passed away March 1, 2023 at Heritage House in New Castle, Indiana. Charles was born December 23, 1927 in Sciotoville, Ohio to Joseph and Nettie (Wilson) Rogers.
He spent most of his life in Portsmouth, Ohio and spent the last few years with his son and daughter-in-law in New Castle, Indiana. After graduating from Wheelersburg High School, Charles served in the US Army from 1950-1952. He worked for Selby Shoes for 11 ½ years before and after he served in the Army. He also was employed by Western and Southern Insurance Company, Robert Machine Shop, and Bill Davis Construction before joining the US Postal Service where he was employed for 25 years. He was an 80+ member of the Charles Street and Riverview Wesleyan Church in Portsmouth, where he served as Sunday School Superintendent for over 60 years.
Charles is survived by one son, Robert (Julie) Rogers; three granddaughters, Chari Rhoads, Jeanna Rogers, and Karyn Rogers; one great-grandson , Micah Rhoads all of New Castle, Indiana; one sister, Charlotte (James) Hulett of Elizabethtown, North Carolina; ten nieces and five nephews and their families.
In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by his wife, Betty (Smith) Rogers; his wife’s parents, Otto and Verna Smith; sisters, Katherine Euton, Dorothea Dorsett, and Thelma Montgomery; brother, Bernard Rogers; seven brothers-in-law and two sisters-in-law.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday March 7, 2023 at 12:00 p.m. at Riverview Wesleyan Church, 212 Madison Ave., Portsmouth, Ohio with Rev Adam Satterfield officiating. Burial will be at Scioto Burial Park. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until time of services Tuesday at the church. There will also be a visitation from 4:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m. Sunday March 5, 2023 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle, Indiana.
