William Dean Hilbert, 84, a life-long resident of Hagerstown passed away on Thursday, February 10, 2022, at Lincolnshire Place in Muncie, where he had been a resident for the past 10 months. He was born October 3, 1937, the son of Chester and Fern (Swoveland) Hilbert. Bill was a 1955 graduate of Hagerstown High School with perfect attendance from K-12. He served in the United States Army from 1956 to 1958. He served as a White House guard to the President, Dwight D. Eisenhower. Bill worked at Perfect Circle/Dana Corporation for 42 years, starting at the age of 17, and served as president of the retirees local 1501 UAW and was owner/operator of the L&B Print Shop for many years. Bill volunteered for the Hagerstown Fire Department for 52 years. He was a member of the Hagerstown Congregational Christian Church. Bill loved spending time with his family and friends. His favorite pastime was watching Purdue basketball only to call up his IU fans to agitate them. He enjoyed fishing and boating at Cataract Lake. He loved country music and playing his Gibson guitar. His true passion was helping others within the Hagerstown community.

In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his wives, Erslia Redmon Trowbridge, and Marcia Paulette Davis, and siblings, Gerald Hilbert, Harold Hilbert and Catherine Ponsler. He is survived by his three daughters, Gail T. Fetz (Richard) of Indianapolis, Gail L. Kane (Tony) of North Carolina and Lisa T. Gregory (David) of Muncie; five grandchildren, Steven Thomas Fetz (Sara) of Chicago, Daniel Alan Fetz (Mary) of Indianapolis, Corbin Thomas Gregory (Eunica) of Honolulu, Michaela Kane, and Taylor Kane of North Carolina; three great grandchildren, Althea Gomez, Georgia Louise Fetz and Miller Grace Fetz.

The family wishes to extend their sincere gratitude to the entire Lincolnshire Place staff and Brighton Hospice for their dedicated care and assistance.

Visitation will be 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM on Saturday, February 19th, at Congregational Christian Church, 201 South Washington Street, Hagerstown. Services will follow at 1:00 PM. Pastor Rick Alvey will officiate. Burial will be in Brick Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hagerstown Fire Department, c/o Town of Hagerstown, 49 E.
