Stephen James Swift, 72, of New Castle passed away Thursday, December 30, 2021 at Henry Community Health following a brief illness. He was born July 1, 1949 in New Castle to James and Vera (Ford) Swift.

Funny, well loved, and adored by all who knew him, Steve enjoyed collecting and trading several different themed items, and thoroughly enjoyed being with his family. He had worked at several factories in the area, where he usually worked in maintenance, including Trainor Springs. He was a member of the NRA and attended First Church of the Nazarene.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of over 53 years, Phyllis Swift of New Castle, whom he married September 6, 1968; two daughters, Patricia (Jeff) Pyle and Dee (Tony) Racine, both of New Castle; grandchildren, Jessica Stamper of New Castle, Andrea Butler of New Castle, Audrea Racine of Indianapolis, and Aaron Racine of New Castle; great grandchildren, Madyson Stamper, Brooklynn Stamper and Joshua Stamper, Lexi Butler, Emercyn Stearns and Carson Racine; his mother, Vera Swift of New Castle; two sisters, Cynthia (John) Melton of New Castle, and Carol Hamby of New Castle; two brothers, Jeff Swift of New Castle and Tim (Rachel) Swift of Richmond; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, James Swift; two sisters, Jeanette Swift and Cathy Keesling; two brothers, Jerry Swift and Brian Swift; a grandson-in-law, Dustin Stamper.

Services will be at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, January 6, 2022 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Pastor Danny Goddard officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery-West Lawn Addition. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m., Wednesday, January 5, 2022 at the funeral home.
