Rose E. Burris passed away peacefully at the age of 65 on Tuesday, February 22nd after a long battle with cancer. Born on November 9th, 1956 to Blanche and Joe Dye, Rose spent most of her life in Richmond and in New Castle. Rose, a lifelong animal lover and advocate, worked at the Henry County Animal Shelter for 22 years, serving as a rescue coordinator for most of that time. Before this, Rose also worked at the HELP the Animals Shelter for over 10 years, as well as served as the President of the Wayne County Humane Society. Rose was happiest with her critters all around her, sometimes housing over 10 cats at a time. Over the course of her life, she saved the lives of thousands of animals, and taught everyone around her how to be a better pet owner.
Rose is preceded in death by her parents, Mike Burris (husband), William Elliott (brother), and Tyler Messer (grandson). She is survived by her son, David Messer; her niece, Missi Kimbler; her grandchildren, Darian, Morgan, and Treyten Messer; her great grandchildren, Kentley, Kyson, Emerie, and Korbin Lambert; her great niece and nephew, Michaylah and Jeremiah Kimbler; and a very special sister in law, Sheila Elliott.
