Robert “Bob” Lee Simerly, 73, of New Castle passed away Wednesday, February 16, 2022 at IU Health Ball Hospital. He was born October 9, 1948 in New Castle to Howard and Lucille (Lee) Simerly.
He graduated from Walter P. Chrysler High School in 1966, then attended Ball State University and Earlham College. On August 28, 2003 Bob retired from Chrysler Corp. after 35 years of service. He enjoyed baseball and coached t-ball, minor and little league baseball teams. Bob also coached basketball at the Salvation Army. He enjoyed music, especially the Blues; he played bass in the Styx ‘n Stones Band. Bob also enjoyed NASCAR and traveling to Civil War Monuments and Hot Rod shows.
He is survived by his wife of 19 years, Elizabeth Simerly, whom he married December 31, 2002; 2 sons, Christopher Simerly and Scott (Tiffani) Simerly, both of New Castle; 2 step sons, Marc Howlett of New Castle and Todd Howlett of Lisbon, OH; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 22, 2022 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Father John Hall officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery.
