Phyllis Ann Holcomb slipped quietly from this life surrounded by love on Wednesday morning, May 11, 2022.  She was born September 4, 1935, to Clarence and Hattie Bryant Plunkett in Henry County, Indiana.

Known as one of the beauties of the class, Phyllis was a graduate of Mooreland High School and Valedictorian of the Class of 1953.  In the fall of that year, she married Robert Holcomb, and they were only separated by his passing in the fall of 2012.

Throughout her life her love of horses was well known. A niece fondly describes her beloved aunt as Liz Taylor in National Velvet.  Phyllis and her sister, Shirley Criswell owned and operated the Saddle Shop, H Bar C, for several years. She also held positions at Perfect Circle in Hagerstown and The New Castle State Hospital.  She loved the beauty of the outdoors and gardening and for many years raised much of the family’s food as well as being a helpmate on the family farm.

She loved her family, and her greatest love was for her husband and her sons, Ned and Randy. She welcomed her daughter in laws, Joy and Rena to complete the family.  In the spring of 1980, she became a grandma for the first time with the births of Jared and Jesse, followed by Caleb in fall 1981, and Lukas in 1983.  She cherished her grandsons! Her love grew and blossomed once more with the addition of two granddaughters in law, Tameria (Jared) and Kylee (Lukas), but the birth of every great-grandchild; Zane, Charlotte, Ella, Bransin, Emmitt, and Lily, consumed her and her greatest desire was for them to remember her.  She was eagerly waiting to meet greatgrandchild number seven, who should be joining the family early June.

Many others are also left to cherish her memory, including her sister, Shirley Criswell, four sisters in laws, Gloria McGaughey, Norma Crandall, Dorothy Pope, and Linda Holcomb, two brothers in law, Fred Criswell and Larry Holcomb, numerous nieces, nephews, littles and friends, and special friend, Misako Lowhorn.

In addition to her husband and parents, Phyllis was preceded in death by brothers Jimmy McGaughey and Arthur Plunkett.

Visitation will be Saturday, May 21, 2022, at the Marshall and Erlewein Funeral Home in Dublin from 1:00-3:00 with a Memorial Service at 3:00. Online condolences can be made at www.marshallanderleweinfuneralhome.com

Phyllis was a member of Jehovah Witnesses, and will be deeply missed by Betty Snyder, Bunny Stover, David and Mary Lynn Scalf.
