Michael F. O’Brien, 81, of New Castle, passed away on Saturday, August 20, 2022 at Stonebrook Rehabilitation Center following an extended illness.

He was born October 29, 1940 in South Bend, Indiana, a son of the late Eugene Lewis and Mary Ellen (Crisman) O’Brien.

Mike earned a Bachelor’s Degree in English at Loyola University and authored three books. He had a great sense of humor and loved to read. Mike and his companion, Cynthia, attended The Place Church in New Castle. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed animals, camping, and mountain climbing in Colorado.

Those left to cherish Mike’s memory include his companion of many years, Cynthia (Welch) Dennison and her sons, Alex and Nicholas Dennison; his two sons, Theodore “Ted” (Kelly) O’Brien of Oxford, MS and Michael S. O’Brien of Ann Arbor, MI; siblings, George Dennis O’Brien, Frederick O’Brien, Nellie Shelton O’Brien, Anni O’Brien, and Christopher O’Brien; several nieces and nephews, and special friends, Henry and Shelly Chandler of Wilkinson, and Bobby Welch.

In addition to his parents, Mike was preceded in death by a brother, Gene O’Brien.

Private memorial services will be held at a later date.
