Johnnie B McGovern Sr, 94, entered his eternal rest on June 15, 2022, surrounded by his loving family at Reid Health.
He was born October 9, 1927, in Irvine, KY, to the late Charles and Josephine McDonald McGovern. After serving his country in the US Marine Corp., he married his wife, Gertrude A Hart, and settled in Richmond, IN. He enjoyed a variety of successful career paths, including maintenance, welding, real estate, and owning Burt’s Harley-Davidson Motorcycle Shop. He will be remembered as the dad and grandpa who loved his Harley and his family very much.
Left to cherish his memory are his children Debra Arline Wilson, Marylou Zacatelco, and Johnnie Burton McGovern Jr., sisters Gloria Graw and Emma Turpin, and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Previously departed loved ones include: his parents; his wife of 52 years, Gertrude A McGovern; a sister Josephine Jennings; and brothers, Earle McGovern and David McGovern.
A memorial service will be on Monday, June 20, 2022 at 11 am at Stegall-Berheide-Orr Funeral Home in Richmond, IN, with Ron Coleman officiating. The burial will be at Goshen Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 9: 00 am to 11:00 am at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be given to a charity of the donor’s choice.
