John Arthur Puckett, 78, passed away peacefully on March 1, 2022, after an extended illness, with his family by his side. John was born on May 17, 1943 in Henry County to Howard and Kathleen Puckett. After Howard’s death, Kathleen remarried to Willie (Spike) Raines.

John grew up outside of New Lisbon and graduated from New Lisbon High School in 1961. John was proud of his business, John’s Garage, it was the local hangout in Dublin for all the years it was open. After closing the garage, John then went to work for US Airways, first in Indianapolis and later transferring to the hub in Charlotte, North Carolina. After retiring from US Airways in 2009, he moved back home to Dublin.

John had a love for cars and racing. He drag raced in his younger years and later spent countless hours being a spectator at racetracks across the country. If it had to do with cars or racing John always had a story to share.

John never met a dog he didn’t love, especially his granddog Winnie, who will miss him greatly, and he never met a stranger. John always left places with more friends than when he went in.

John is survived by his sons, Ron (Amy) Puckett of Cambridge City, and Todd (Michele) Gabbard of Dublin, 5 grandchildren Bailey, Brody and Kinley Puckett and Chelsea (Derek) Lingg and Trevor Gabbard, and his sister, Janice (Bill) Longnecker, his sister-in-law Dolores Puckett, and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his daughter, Lori, and her children and grandchildren. John also leaves behind his special friend,Vicki, and many other friends locally and around the country.

John was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Ray.

John will be missed every day. Relatives and friends are invited to extend their condolences from 11:00-1:00 Saturday, March 5th, at Marshall & Erlewein Funeral Home in Dublin. A graveside service will immediately follow at New Lisbon Cemetery.
