John Allen “Squeaky” McKinney Sr., age 87, of Eaton, Ohio, died Sunday, January 2, 2022, at Vancrest Health Care Center of Eaton.

Born June 14, 1934, in Richmond, Indiana, to William E. and Dorothy I. Lawley McKinney Sr., John lived in this community most of his life. He graduated from Richmond High School in 1953. John retired from Richmond Power & Light and previously worked at P.J.’s Excavating and DeBolt’s Excavating. He enjoyed traveling, bowling, and NASCAR racing.

Survivors include his children, Stephanie A. (Rick) Fasnacht of Eaton and John A. (Cathy) McKinney Jr. of Richmond; grandchildren, Michael (Amy) Thompson of Richmond, Michele (Adam) Thompson of Hollansburg, Ohio, and Justin (Brooke) Johnson of Richmond; great-grandchildren, Bryce, Michaela, Gwendolyn, and Xavier Thompson; nieces; nephews; and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Phyllis Jean Thomas McKinney, who died January 11, 2017; parents; and brother, William E. McKinney Jr.

The family would like to thank the staff of Vancrest Health Care Center and Annett Jones and Shania Saylor for the wonderful care they gave to John.

Visitation for John Allen “Squeaky” McKinney Sr. will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday, January 7, 2022, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond. Funeral service will follow at 7:00 p.m. Friday, January 7, 2022, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home with Chaplain Rick Alvey officiating. Burial will be in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens.
