George Landis Harrell, age 97, passed away on Friday, August 26, 2022, at Friends Fellowship Community surrounded by his family.  George was born on March 30, 1925, in Richmond, IN to Soloman and Myrtle (Smith) Harrell.  He graduated from Richmond High School, Richmond, Indiana with the class of 1944.

George served in the Navy from September 1943 until being discharged in May 1946.  He served on the   USS Bon Homme Richard (CV-31) as a gunner (VTN-91).

George married Mary Carolyn Haller on October 16, 1948.  They celebrated 69 years together prior to her passing on March 7, 2018.  George worked 30 years for Willoughby, Kurdys, and Kurdys-Brookbank Chevrolet.  After retiring from Chevrolet, he operated as a Mac Tool distributor for 10 years.  George enjoyed flying, auto restoration, golf, rock painting, and flying radio control planes.  George and Mary delivered Meals on Wheels for 23 years.  George was a member of American Legion Post 65, Noon Optimist Club, and St. Mary’s Church.

George is proceeded in death by his wife, his parents, sisters Virginia (Larry) Barton, and Dorothy (Murrel) Ayers, brothers Walter and Edward Harrell, and brother-in-law Phillip Wood.  George is survived by his sister Ruby Wood of Lake Havasu City, AZ, sons Tim (Alyson) of Centerville, IN, Kevin (Mary) of Fishers, IN, and Mark (Gayle) of Richmond, IN, 7 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

Calling will be held from 9:30-10:30am on Thursday September 1, 2022, at Riggle-Waltermann Mortuary.  Liturgy of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 am in St. Mary Church.  Father Sengole Gnanaraj will officiate.  Burial will be at Earlham Cemetery Mausoleum.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Friends Fellowship Endowment Fund, 2030 Chester Blvd, Richmond, IN  47374 or Richmond Catholic Community, 235 S. 5th Street, Richmond, IN  47374
