Fred Fraley, 92, of Indianapolis, passed away Thursday, July 14, 2022 at his home with his family by his side. He was born April 17, 1930 in Morehead, KY, a son of the late Milligan and Mary (Purvis) Fraley.
Fred married Arlene (Gulley) Fraley in April 1950 in Morehead, KY and had seven children over the next 28 years . They moved from Morehead to Richmond, IN in 1956 and settled in the Indianapolis area in 1957. Arlene passed away in 1997 and Fred married Edith (Issacs) Fraley in 1999 adding 2 more daughters to the ever-growing Fraley family.
Fred became a member of Christian Tabernacle church in Indianapolis in 1964, where he enjoyed being an usher. Fred (Brother Fraley) was known for always having a smile and teasing and playing pranks on the kids at church.
He worked in concrete construction for many years with his four sons and was known for helping each to establish their own businesses and being a very hard worker, Fred continued working with his son Bobby in the concrete industry, retiring at age 83. He loved helping others and especially pouring concrete for many churches across the country. He was also an avid fisherman and loved to travel.
If you were to ask Fred his greatest accomplishments, he would say his faith in the Lord and his family, and that included both his extended and church families. He was known for always having an open door, his warm smile, kind heart and the ability to make everyone feel special; he was (Daddy, Grandpa, Poppy, Uncle Fred and Brother Fraley). His life and commitment to the Lord were an inspiration to all and the way he treated everyone the same, with love and dignity were a testament to his stewardship and faith in God. His family and friends always commented on the wonderful example of a man he was and how proud they were of him.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Edith Fraley of Indianapolis, who he married January 23, 1999; children, Jeannie (Rick) Bryson of Indianapolis, Joe Fraley of Muncie, and Becky (Kenny) VanSlyke of Mooresville; daughters-in-law, Terry Fraley, Karen Fraley, and Judy Fraley; step children, Sandy (Elmer) Cosgrove, step son-in-law, Jon Land; grandchildren, Amy Howell, Douglas Fraley, Ashley Davis, Nathan (Molly) Fraley, Skylar (Kaleb) Huff, Jesse (Taylor) Fraley, Alycia (Stephen) Hampton, Heather and Krista VanSlyke; step grandchildren, Neil (Jenny) Land, Evan Land, Lauren (Jake) Jeffers, and Evan Bryson; great grandchildren, Austin Howell, Clayton, Summer, Colton, McKenzie, Ella, Silas, and Jace Fraley, Brookelynne and Jordan Hampton, Layla Huff; step great grandchildren, Caleb, Elizabeth, Joshua, and Matthew Land, Adriana, Eastan, and Evangeline Jeffers; one sister, Mabel Whitehead of Richmond; two brothers, Russell Fraley of Richmond and Junior Fraley of Morehead, KY; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Arlene (Gulley) Fraley; three sons, Larry Fraley, Bobby Fraley, and Steve Fraley; and an infant daughter, Jana, grandchildren, Darrell and Cara Fraley; stepdaughter, Debbie Land; two sisters, Dorothy Sparks and Eileen McDaniels; four brothers, James, Tennis, Frank, and Ralph Fraley.
Services will be at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 19, 2022 at Christian Tabernacle Church, 802 S. Franklin Dr., Indianapolis, with Pastor Kent Jordan officiating. Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m., Monday, July 18, 2022 at the church. Memorial contributions may be given to Christian Tabernacle School, 802 S. Franklin Rd., Indianapolis, IN .
