Fran Alford, born Frances Joan Taylor, Richmond, passed away peacefully in her sleep, the morning of December 7, 2022. Her son Bob was by her side. She was 91 years old.

Fran was born in Monticello, NY, to John V. and Florence Taylor. She had an older brother and sister, John V and Barbara. Her cousin Thomas McNeely was like a brother to her and lived in the home. She was married to Joe L. Alford for 50 years. Fran was the last survivor of her generation within the family and her oldest son, David, also preceded her in death.
Fran is survived by her youngest son Robert Alford of Indianapolis, IN, (wife Leslie and son Joseph), and middle son James Alford of Richmond, IN, (wife Mary, daughter Taylor (and Tyler) Turner, and son Patrick Alford), and beloved daughter-in-law Debbie Cullins of Wilmington, NC. Fran was loved as “Aunt Babe” by nieces, nephews, and a large extended family.

After graduating from Monticello High School, Fran attended Binghamton City Hospital School of Nursing in Binghamton, NY and graduated in 1952. She served the Air Force Nurse Corps when she met the love of her life, Captain Joe. They were married on Valentine’s Day. Their love was always present as they raised a family, traveled the world, and remained dedicated to the USAF. They had homes in Japan, NY, VA, and IL before becoming civilians in IN, where they enjoyed many years at Ball State University. They retired to Sarasota, FL. When Joe died, Fran moved to NC to be closer to family.

Fran always felt that she was fortunate to have had such a happy life – wonderful parents, a loving husband, three healthy boys, fabulous extended family, countless dear friends and a fulfilling relationship with her church.

A Funeral Mass will be held for Fran on December 21st at 9:30 a.m. at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 2506 Gulf Gate Drive, Sarasota, Florida. Her cremains will be placed there in Mary’s Garden where her husband Joe’s cremains were placed.

In lieu of flowers, Fran gave to the S.O.A.R.S. program at St. Thomas More and St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. She would love it if you did, too.
