David Harold West, Jr., age 66, a New Castle resident, passed away in his home Sunday, January 30, 2022. He was born September 11, 1955, in New Castle, Indiana, a son of the late David Harold West, Sr., and Cara (Morris) West.
David was a US Army veteran where he served in the Vietnam War and was a recipient of the Purple Heart. He attended Ivy Tech in Richmond where he received his associate degree. David loved helping others which he demonstrated as a QMA at the State Hospital for 20+ years. He enjoyed taking his grandchildren with him to local races at Mt. Lawn, Anderson Speedway, Brickyard and enjoyed NASCAR racing, especially, Dale Earnhardt. He also enjoyed taking his daughter with him to work at the taxicab. It was said “she made more money than he did.” David also loved playing bingo and sharing time with his family and grandchildren.
Left to cherish his loving memory include his wife, Vicki (Potter) West whom he married December 17, 1978; two children, Joshua and Justa West; six grandchildren, Alysa, Alec, Jordan, Josh, Joey, and Haven; five siblings, Patty (Ray) Blakenship, Carolyn West-Everetts, Linda (Randy) Williams, Bobby (Rita) West, and Thomas (Shonda) West; several nieces, nephews also survive.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be held 6:00 p.m., Friday, February 4, 2022 at Rose City Funeral Home, 2011 East Broad Street with Pastor Paul Davis officiating. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m., until service time Friday at the funeral home.
