Bernice Sharits, 79, died Tuesday February 1st, at her caregiver’s home. Bernice was born, Juanita Vernois Bravo, on April 27, 1942, to Miguel and Malcolfa Archuleta on the family farm on the outskirts of Redwing, Colorado. At the age of 16, she left home to live with her cousin in Colorado Springs. It was there, that she met her husband, Dale Sharits, who was stationed at Fort Carson Army Base. They were married in Colorado Springs on March 9th, 1967, upon his discharge they relocated to Richmond, Indiana. Bernice soon found a job she loved doing, that was being a crossing guard for the school children. She often talked about the generations of families she got to know. She retired after 45 years of service. She received a plaque from the city of Richmond for her years of service.

Bernice is survived by Kenneth Sharits (Sui) grandchildren, Jacob, and Joshua, two sisters Beatrice Burnell and Evangeline Trujillo.

Bernice is preceded in death by her husband Dale, and daughter Shannon Sharits. Brothers Abe, Art and sister, Mary Gregory.
