Arthur Eugene Powell, 93, passed away Wednesday evening January 26, 2022 at Signature Healthcare in Muncie, Indiana.  A son of the late William Arthur and Bernice (Passmore) Powell, Arthur was born in Fayette County, near Bentonville, Indiana on June 18, 1928.  He graduated in the top five of his class (there were only five students) from Bentonville High School where he played on the basketball team.  Gene married the former Donna Jean Davison at the Cambridge City Christian Church on February 20, 1949. A lifelong farmer, Gene and his wife Donna raised their family near Jacksonburg and Bentonville before settling in Henry County in 1963.  He had also driven a school bus while living in Wayne County. Gene was a man of faith and member of the New Lisbon Christian Church where he was an Elder, Board Member, Sunday School Teacher and sang in the quartet.  In his leisure, Gene enjoyed playing euchre and was a member of the New Lisbon Euchre Club at the elevator, he was a croquet master and competitive horseshoe pitcher.  He pitched horseshoes at the New Castle Park and participated in tournaments throughout the country.

Survivors include 5 children, Jo Ann Wells, Jay Lee (Memorie) Powell, Jane Ellen (Mike) Taylor, Joyce Elaine (Richard) Chew and James Edward “Bubba” (Kathy) Powell; 14 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; 3 siblings, Leland and Richard Powell and Betty Sickles; nieces and nephews.

Gene was preceded in death by his wife Donna on March 1, 2021; son in-law, Randy Wells; grandson, Paul E. Wells; 3 siblings, Marjorie Stant, Mary Westover and Martha Powell.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the time of funeral services at 2 p.m. on Monday January 31, 2022 at New Lisbon Christian Church.  Rev.
