William C. Carter, age 89, a New Castle resident, passed away at his home Sunday, June 20, 2021 surrounded by his loving family. He was born November 3, 1931 in New Castle, Indiana, and was a son of Clay Raymond and Nora Gregory Carter.
Mr. Carter was a New Castle resident most of his life. He was a 1951 graduate of New Castle High School and entered the United States Army. He was promoted from a Private to a Colonel over a 43 year military career that included active Army, Army Reserves, and Army National Guard. He was a recipient of many military awards and recognitions during his military career. Mr. Carter served with the Infantry. He was a member of the American Legion and Lions Club. He was also retired from Modernfold Industries after 41 years of service. Mr. Carter loved family activities, fishing, golfing, spending winters with his wife in Florida, and was active in Cub Scouts.
Left to cherish his loving memory include his wife of 63 years, Creola Sells Carter, whom he married February 25, 1958; five children, Belinda Wise (Don) of New Castle, Becky Huber (Mark) of Carmel, Indiana, Todd Carter (Maria Rosa) of Lafayette, Indiana, Terri Ward (Rick) of Columbia, Tennessee, Troy Carter (Debbie) of New Castle, Indiana; six grandchildren, Scott Wise (Erin Mahin) of New Castle, Steven Wise (Tia) of Middletown, Brittany Ward of Columbia, Dustin Carter (Christi), Tyler Carter (Shelby), Jordan Carter (Kayla), all of New Castle; fifteen great-grandchildren, Devon, Caleb, Lilly, Tyler, Katelyn, Trent, Ethan, Brooklyn, Jaxon, Lilly, Dezstani, Elena, Bradyen, Menley; one great-grandchild awaiting to be born this summer; one sister, Harriett Thompson of New Castle; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father, Clay Raymond Carter and his mother, Nora Gregory Bishop; four siblings, Christine Charles, Emogene Lewis, Pearl Benbow, Betty Caton; a granddaughter, Kristin Supinger.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m., Friday, June 25, 2021 at Macer-Hall-Marcum & Moffitt Funeral Home, 2011 East Broad Street, New Castle, with Reverend Mark Herbkersman officiating. Burial will follow at South Mound Cemetery with Military Honors conducted by the U.S. Army, VFW, and American Legion.
