Wanetta Baker Scott, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 18, 2021 at the age of 95 in her Connersville, Indiana home.
She was born in Clover Bottom, Jackson County, Kentucky on October 7, 1925, one of four children to Milton and Bessie (Lunsford) Baker. The Baker family moved to Fayette County when Wanetta was an infant. Wanetta attended Alquina schools.
On March 30, 1946, Wanetta married Fred William “Davey” Scott of Everton. They celebrated 63 years of marriage before he proceeded her in death on August 24, 2009. Together they had two children, six grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.
Wanetta worked at General Telephone for 15 years while also being a full-time farm wife and homemaker. In later years, Wanetta and Fred enjoyed attending auctions and filling their antique booths with different unique items. They also enjoyed traveling, taking bus tours to new places. Even after Fred’s passing Wanetta was always ready to go, taking many road trips with family. But her greatest joy was spending time with family at their events and activities, especially 4-H and ball games. Wanetta also faithfully watched the church services of the First Methodist Church of Connersville.
Wanetta is survived by her children, Marsha Gettinger (Dan) Moster of Connersville and James (Sharon) Scott of Liberty. Lovingly called Nanny by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Wanetta is also survived by grandchildren Gary Christopher (Kelly) Gettinger, Carol “Dee” (Ellis) McQueen, Erika Scott, D. Bryan (Stacy) Scott, Craig (Angela “Peanut”) Gettinger, and Chad (Cathy) Gettinger and great-grandchildren Makenzie “Kenzie” Gettinger, Sarah Scott, Cody Chappelow, Kyle Chappelow, Kevin Chappelow, Stellen Scott, Wyatt Gettinger, Addisyn Gettinger, Pacey Gettinger, Diesel Gettinger, Kyndal Scott, Kane Gettinger, Kamryn Scott and Caigan Gettinger.
In addition to her husband, Wanetta is preceded in death by her father, mother, siblings Clarence Baker, Burnice Baker Klemme, and infant sister Vernie Baker, and son-in-law Gary W. Gettinger.
Visitation for Wanetta will be held on Friday, September 24, 2021 from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Myers Chapel, Connersville. The funeral service will be at the conclusion of visitation, starting at 1:00 pm with Pastor Frank Oakman officiating. Burial will follow at Dale Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to donor’s choice.
