Ted M. Roberts, age 69, of Richmond, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, October 13.
Ted was born in Wayne County, Indiana on January 9, 1952 to Max E. & Charlotte J. Thomas Roberts. He was a 1970 graduate of Northeastern High School. On August 22, 1970 he married the former Donna Kay Goodwin. They were blessed with two children. As his family grew, Ted enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
Ted had a lifelong love for athletics. He lettered in Cross Country, Basketball and Track in high school. He coached many seasons of Little League and officiated many ball games as an IHSAA referee and umpire. When he wasn’t coaching or officiating, he would travel near and far to watch a certain player compete or a matchup between two good teams. He never met a stranger and could strike up a conversation with anyone, anywhere.
Ted worked in several positions at Dana before retiring after 30 years of service. He also formerly served as a Wayne County Sheriff’s Department Reserve Officer. Whether it was at work, the Liar’s Table at the Family Diner in Fountain City or elsewhere, Ted enjoyed pulling pranks on his friends. He was a skilled mushroom hunter; a trait he treasured from the times he and his Dad went hunting together.
Ted is survived by his wife of 51 years, Donna Roberts; son & daughter-in-law, Todd & Cherie Roberts; daughter & son-in-law, Michelle & John Cruse; mother, Charlotte Roberts; grandchildren, Courtney, Tatum, Jenna and Carson; great-grandson, Jackson; sister & brother-in-law, Carol & Rick Webb; brother & sister-in-law, Tom & Janet Roberts; special brother-in-law & sister-in-law, Bill & Sandy Goodwin; nieces, Lisa and Sherry; nephews, Mike, Chris and Chase.
Ted was preceded in death by his father, Max Roberts, in 2001.
