Ruth Ann Miers, age 79, resident of Spiceland, Indiana, passed away Wednesday December 8, 2021, at her residence. She was born July 18, 1942, in New Castle, Indiana, a daughter of Fred Counts and Nola (Cruz) Counts.
Ruth was a 1960 graduate of New Castle Chrysler High School and also received a BS degree in Social Services from Indiana University East. After graduating, Ruth started working for Henry County Memorial Hospital as a medical transcriptionist and social worker. Ruth especially loved working with the social service volunteers from where she received the most enjoyment. She was employed 45 years before retiring in April of 2007. She married her husband of 59 years, David Miers on September 29, 1962, and together they had one son, Scott.

Ruth enjoyed reading, taking bus tours and train rides that included tours to New York City, Branson City, Missouri, Washington D.C., Ashland, North Carolina visiting the Biltmore, Chicago and Washington State. Ruth was truly a lover of her rescue cats named Sam, Susie, Sally, Sissy, and Simon. Ruth was a member of the United Methodist Church in Spiceland, and the Women’s Fellowship Bible Study Group that is held at First Baptist Church in New Castle.

Left to cherish her loving memory include her husband, David Miers; one son, Scott Miers (Alison Himes) of Okeechobee, Florida; two grandchildren, Jillian (husband, Sean) Durrance of Jacksonville, Florida and Chloe Miers of Indianapolis, In; several cousins also survive.

She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Fred and Nola (Cruz) Counts.

Graveside services will be held 2:00 p.m., Monday, December 12, 2021,
