Robert Allen Hassler, 96, of Connersville passed away peacefully Monday morning, December 20, 2021 at Heritage House of Connersville where he had been a resident since November.

The older of two sons of Harold E. and Ethel M. Stant Hassler, Bob was born in Connersville on February 2, 1925 and graduated from Connersville High School with the Class of 1943.

Following a year of pre-engineering studies at Miami University, Oxford, Bob attended Purdue University and earned his Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering in 1948. After graduation, he returned to Connersville and was employed at Stant Manufacturing in the purchasing department. In 1953, Bob co-founded Connersville Automotive Supply with his brother Donald Hassler. Bob and his wife Melba operated Connersville Automotive until his retirement in 1988.

Bob led an active post-retirement life, working through his late eighties at Stant Farms, Exponent Publishers, Reidman Motors and Hassler Textile Services.

On December 6, 1952, Bob was married to Melba June Gage in Connersville. Melba Hassler passed away on February 17, 1995.

Bob was a member of Grand Avenue United Methodist Church and held memberships at the Elks, Moose, and Eagles Lodges. He was awarded a lifetime honorary membership of Connersville Rotary Club where he served as club president and held several other offices. Bob was also longtime member of the Salvation Army Advisory Board.

An avid automotive enthusiast, Bob enjoyed working on his cars, especially his 1971 Volkswagen convertible. He also enjoyed music and boating on Brookville Lake .

Survivors include two children, Randal (Melanie) Hassler of Yarrow Point, Washington and Myla (Jeff) Faber of Connersville; three grandchildren, Alan Hassler of Concord, New Hampshire, Claire Hassler of Yarrow Point, and Tara (Ryan) Hamilton of Elburn, Illinois; two great-grandchildren, Madeleine and Connor Hamilton; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Besides his wife of 42 years, Melba Hassler, Bob was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Donald Hassler.
