Phyllis K. McNelis, age 91, a New Castle resident, passed away Friday, October 15, 2021 at Heritage House of New Castle following a brief illness.
She was born February 16, 1930 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, a daughter of the late Val and Katherine Kruger.
Phyllis was a high school graduate in Pittsburg, Pa., and had been a resident of New Castle since 1963. She and her late husband, James McNelis, owned and operated McNelis Wood Specialties located in New Castle for many years. Phyllis had also worked for the New Castle State Hospital and was a caregiver to many people. She loved family activities and was a 50year member of the First Presbyterian Church in New Castle.
She is survived by a daughter, Valerie McNelis; two grandchildren, Christopher McNelis (Hayley) of New Castle and Lindsey McNelis (Zachary Hile) of Fishers, Indiana; two great-grandchildren, Madelyn McNelis and Budhi Hile; a sister, Lois Dominiak of Oakmont, Pennsylvania; several nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by Jack Kruger, Carol A. Coates, her husband, James McNelis and a son, James McNelis, Jr.
There will be no calling. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m., Wednesday at the First Presbyterian Church, 1202 Church Street, New Castle, In., with Reverend Rod Smith officiating. Burial will be held later at Green Hills Memory Garden. Funeral directors and staff of Macer-Hall-Marcum & Moffitt Funeral Home, 2011 East Broad Street, are honored to serve the McNelis family.
