Phyllis Jean Bell was called to her eternal heavenly home on January 19th, 2021, while surrounded by loving family. Phyllis was born August 28th, 1929, in Anderson, Indiana, to Will and Mayme Bowman, the 4th of 5 children. She was 1947 graduate of Hagerstown High School, and attended Manchester College.
On September 3rd, 1948, she married Walter Myron Bell. They celebrated their 72nd wedding anniversary in 2020. Together they raised 8 children. Charles (Peggy), Rex (Susan), Julianne Stout (Greg), Ross, Jeanna Stout (Jeff), Mariellen Miller (Brad), David (Jenny), and Trecia Carpenter (Rob).
Their children and spouses blessed them with 24 grandchildren, who in turn blessed them with 34 great-grandchildren, and a host of extended family. Phyllis was also “Grandma Bell” to a whole lot of her grandchildren’s friends who played at the pond and stayed overnight in the cabin on their farm south of Mooreland. Phyllis loved people, and the more, the merrier. She loved to host family reunions on the farm, and even if you weren’t family, she would always find you a plate and a seat at the table.
Her love for family was second only to her love for God. She attended White Branch Church of the Brethren for 85 years, 72 of those with her beloved husband Myron. Myron passed on December 26th, 2020, and the last 3 weeks are the longest they have been apart in 72 years. She was anxious to be with Myron again, and thankful that God allowed that to happen.
Services will be held at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle. Visitation will be from 10:00 until 12:00 on Saturday, January 23rd, with services following the visitation.
In lieu of flowers, Phyllis asked that memorial donations be made to Mahali Pa Maisha or White Branch Church of the Brethren. You may express condolences or share a memory of Phyllis at www.hinsey-brown.com.
