Mrs. Naoma M. McGough, 79, formerly of Williamsburg, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, January 28 while surrounded by her family in the comfort of her home.

Naoma was born in Springfield, Kentucky to Raymond S. Wilkerson and Hazel R. Alsip Wilkerson on November 27, 1941. When she was 6, her father moved the family to Stockland, Illinois and then to Sheldon, Illinois in 1957. Naoma graduated from Sheldon High School in 1960. The following September, she attended Olivet Nazarene University in Kankakee, Illinois.

After the first year, she married Harold McGough on September 9, 1961 and they moved to Mount Vernon, Ohio. They lived there until 1969 when they moved to Wayne County, Indiana. Living in Williamsburg, they were faithful members of the Williamsburg Church of the Nazarene. Naoma taught Sunday School and was also the Mission President for 25 years. She was a recipient of the church’s Distinguished Service Award.

Naoma will be missed by her husband of 59 years, Harold R. McGough, Sr.; son & daughter-in-law, Harold R., Jr. & Ruth McGough; son-in-law, Rick Smith; grandchildren, Allen R. Smith, whom Naoma & Harold raised; Bridget McGough and Alexander R. McGough; sister, Anne Warren; brother, Ray Wilkerson; aunt, Sadie Brockman; and many cousins across the country.

Naoma was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter, Wanda Jean Smith, who passed in 1989; a brother, James Wilkerson and a special friend from high school, Mary K. Rabe.

Naoma’s homegoing will be celebrated at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 2, at the Williamsburg Church of the Nazarene, 8503 Pleasant Street in Williamsburg. Interment will follow in Goshen Cemetery.

Visitation will be from Noon until 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 2, at the church.
