Linda L. Shepherd, age 74, passed away on Christmas evening, in the loving presence of her family in the comfort of her home.
She was born in Wayne County, Indiana, on July 3, 1947, the daughter of Robert & Dovie Sandlin Hensley, both of whom preceded her in death.
Linda graduated from Richmond High School, Class of 1965. She married Dewey B. Shepherd, Jr. on December 11, 1965. Their union was blessed with four children and nearly 56 years of marriage before Dewey’s death on September 29, 2021. Linda was formerly a nursing assistant. She was a bus driver for Northeastern Wayne Schools, retiring after 30 years of service. Her service at Northeastern included coaching Elementary Soccer after she learned the game herself. She often found her way onto construction crews along with other members of the Shepherd family. She and Dewey enjoyed square dancing and also shared their love of crafting by teaching others to craft. She was a member of Chapter #552, Order of Eastern Star and was a Past Worthy Matron, Past District Deputy and Grand Representative.
Linda will be missed by her children, Randy Shepherd & wife, Lisa, Sheri Shepherd, Beth Dixon & husband, Brent, Joshua Shepherd & wife, Marcy; 7 grandchildren, Mariah (Sarah) Henderson, Jordan (Taylor) Lett, Tucker Shepherd, Alyson Stover, Brently Dixon, Leah Lahman, Olivia Shepherd; 1 great-granddaughter, Lorelei Lett; sisters, Sheila Johnson & husband, Tony, Brenda Bowers; sister-in-love, Diecy Keith & husband, Terry; brothers, Bobby Hensley, Eddie Hensley, Mike Hensley and Ben Hensley.
Linda was preceded in death by her parents, husband and one brother, Danny Hensley.
Public visitation for Linda will be from 2-7 pm on Thursday, December 30, at the Smith-McQuiston & Webster Funeral Home, 321 US 27 South, Fountain City. Fraternal rites will be delivered by Chapter #552, Order of Eastern Star beginning at the conclusion of visitation.
Interment will follow at a later date in Willow Grove Cemetery.
