Lester Lee Hunter, 76, of New Castle passed away Tuesday morning, December 14, 2021 at Community Hospital in Anderson. He was born December 13, 1945 in Columbus, OH, a son of the late Willie M. and Glenna (Ellis) Hunter.
He was employed by General Motors in the Metal Fabrication Division for 36 years. Lester was a 1965 graduate of Marysville High School in Marysville, Ohio and attended Springfield Tech. He currently and for the past 29 years owned and operated “Lock-Buster”, a local locksmith business. He was also a 30 year volunteer for the Greensboro Volunteer Fire Department. Lester was a longtime founding member of Cross Road Church, where he was an Elder. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Era and a member of the National Guard. Lester never met a stranger, loved to laugh and help people.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Connie Hunter of New Castle; children, Heath (Noel) Hunter of Knightstown, Kenneth (fiancé, Galene Pendleton) Hunter of Greensboro and Brandon (Melissa) Hunter of Rushville; grandchildren; Katherine (Clayton) Crosby of Greenfield, Jareth Hunter of Knightstown, Ryan (Macey) Hunter of New Castle, Jonathan Hunter of Knightstown, Braiden Hunter of Rushville and Trevor Hunter of Rushville; great grandchildren, Zevaeh Glover and Axle Crosby; siblings, Effie Ferguson of Columbus, OH, Athrea Hedrick of Shoreview, MN, Howard Hedrick of Columbus, OH and Darleen (Jim) Forsythe of South Salem, OH; several nieces & nephews.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by brothers, Thomas and Denver Hedrick and David Hunter.
Services will be at 11:00am Monday December 20, 2021 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Rev. Danny Douglas officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hills Memory Gardens. Visitation will be Sunday from 2:00pm-6:00pm at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be given to the Greensboro Volunteer Fire Department or Cross Road Church.
