Leland “Ray” Heck, 92, of Cambridge City passed away on Saturday morning January 9, 2021 at Reid Health in Connersville after a brief illness.  The son of the late William Webster and Hazel Florea Heck, he was born at home on November 1, 1928 in Fayette County.  Ray was president of class and graduated from Harrisburg School in 1946.  He attended Purdue University Short Course in 1947 and was President of  Purdue Alumni Fayette County for 1 year.  He married Lucille Marie Pflum on February 3, 1951 and they raised three children, Rose “Leann” Cochran, Mary Jo (Tim) Close and Kenneth Ray Heck.  He was President of the Eagles 1065, Governor of the Moose 1160, President of Council of Clubs, Fayette County Fair Board, on the Board of Directors of Farmers Grain Company in Pershing 1966 – 1996 and was President 1982-1989.  He enjoyed farming until retiring in 1999 and then worked for Cutshaw’s until retiring again in 2016

Ray is survived by his children; grandchildren, Brent (Katie) Close, Dustin (Hillary) Close, Jennifer (Erick) Garrison and Jeanette Hensley; great-grandchildren, Claire, Olivia, Wiley Close, Henry & Harper Close, Luke & Keegan Garrison; brother, Carl (Pat) Heck; brothers-in-law, James and Kenny Pflum; sister-in-law, Virginia Myers; many nieces and nephews.

Ray was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 63 years, Lucille M. Heck on July 11, 2014; a grandson, Nathan Close; son-in-law, Bill Cochran; sister, Mary Ann Heck; brothers Dale and Lee Heck.

A public calling will be held on Wednesday, January 13, 2021 at Waskom Capitol Hill Chapel from 10 am until 12 noon.  Due to Covid restrictions please keep your time and conversations limited.  Private family only service will follow with interment in Riverside Cemetery.
