Joseph Ronald “Ron” Koons, age 82, of Richmond, Indiana, died Friday, July 9, 2021, at home surrounded by his family.

Born June 4, 1939, in Connersville, Indiana, to Joseph H. and Georgia D. Johnson Koons, Ron lived in Richmond for the last fifty-six years. He graduated from Mooreland High School in 1957. Ron founded Koons Home Center, his legacy, in 1966 and was the proud owner and operator, which continues to be operated by his family. He was a member of the Wayne County Builders Association, Mega Group USA Retail Buying Group, and Wayne County Chamber of Commerce. Ron held a pilot’s license for many years. He always had a smile and was very generous to the community.

Survivors include his daughters, Cheryl (Chuck) Schleeter and Debbra Smith, both of Richmond and Rhonda Blue of Columbus, Ohio; son, Ronald Koons of Columbus, Ohio; grandchildren, Shanan, Mandy, Christopher, Kristina, Danielle, and Faithann; several great-grandchildren; sister, Betty Houser of New Castle, Indiana; nieces; nephews; the incredible staff at Koons Home Center; his one and only girl, Izzy; and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Brandi Newton; great-grandson, Jake Calico; parents; and brother, Richard E. Koons.

Visitation for Joseph Ronald “Ron” Koons will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 13, 2021, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond. Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 14, 2021, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Mooreland Cemetery.
