John Roy Corwin, age 85, of Centerville, Indiana, died Monday, September 13, 2021, at Friends Fellowship Community.
Born April 8, 1936, in Dayton, Ohio, to John Corwin and Mildred Louise Butler Corwin, Roy was a resident of Centerville and Wayne County, Indiana, for most of his life. He held a BS degree from Wilmington College and was a design engineer at Eaton Gear Works and then at Hoffco for many years before he retired. Roy and Patty spent a few years in both Tennessee and Michigan, before relocating back to Centerville. He devoted his life to his family and enjoyed spending his free time fishing, boating, and building/fixing things around the house and for others. His late wife, Patty, was known to say, “Roy can fix anything.” He was a movie buff and an avid IU basketball fan.
Survivors include his four children, Kelly A. (Dennis) Andrews of Terre Haute, Indiana, Michael S. (Barbara) Corwin and Jon A. (Barbara) Corwin, both of Richmond, and Jill L. (Jeffrey) Pentecost of Centerville; eight grandchildren, Dr. Karen Andrews, Jennifer (Andrew) Blank, Jonathan Michael Andrews, Kathleen (Robert) Elmore, David (Casey) Corwin, Matthew Corwin, Laura Pentecost, and Nathan Pentecost; seven great-grandchildren, Daniel and Sylvie Elmore, Carter and Camden Andrews, Lucy and Emily Blank, and Ella Corwin; nieces; nephews; and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Patricia L. Corwin, who died April 6, 2012; parents; sister, Carolyn O’Berg; and brothers, Gilbert and Thomas Corwin.
An intimate graveside service for John Roy Corwin will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, October 1, 2021, at Crown Hill Cemetery for his family and friends.
