James Arthur McMechan passed away October 24, 2021 at the age of 81. He was born March 13, 1940, to Roberta Pinkerton McMechan and Walter James McMechan. He grew up on a farm in Union County, Indiana. He graduated from Short High School where he was very active in FFA serving as Liberty Chapter President, District 9 President, and State Reporter. He was also named the State Star Farmer. Jim graduated from the Agriculture Course at Purdue University where as President of the Class he introduced the graduation speaker, Earl Butts.

Through 4-H Junior Leaders he met his wife, Charla Major. They celebrated their 60th Wedding Anniversary on July 23, 2021. Jim farmed the McMechan Farms for 50 years growing award winning corn, soybeans, and swine.

He retired to Anna Maria Island, Florida, where he enjoyed hosting family and friends and attending Pirates and Reds baseball games.

His wife, Charla McMechan, precedes him in death. Survivors include his son James Michael McMechan from Indianapolis; his daughter Joni Lynn Checchia and Dr. Paul from Houston; his grandchildren Mac McMechan from Brooklyn, Eric McMechan from Atlanta, and Andrew Checchia from Los Angeles.
