Helen Virginia Black, 87, Cambridge City, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 23, 2021. She was born on August 8, 1933 in Lynn, Indiana to Jack and Francis Ballard. Helen lived most of her life in Cambridge City with her husband, Johnie Guy Black, where they raised their 8 children.

Helen graduated from Bentonville High School in 1952. She worked at South Side Grocery and Ford-Visteon where she retired after 23 years. She was a member of New Life Baptist Church in Boston, Indiana.

Helen’s legacy will live on through her 8 children, who loved her dearly, Cathy (Phil) Shank, Jack (Terry) Black, John Black, Jeff (Traci) Black, Connie Lewis, Jay Black, Joe (Julie) Black and James (Angie) Black; 6 siblings, Luella Willis, Thelma Keihn, Barbara McCutchan, Patricia Waskom, Carl Ballard, Russell (Brenda) Ballard; brother-in-law, John Monroe; 50 grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Johnie Guy Black; great-grandson, Wade Shank; daughter-in-law, Debbie Black; son-in-law, Mark Lewis; sister, Faye Monroe and 4 infant brothers.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 PM on Thursday, May 27 and from 10 AM until the the start of the Funeral service at 10:30 AM on Friday, May 28 at Waskom Capitol Hill Chapel in Cambridge City. Pastor Gary Sellers will be officiating. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery.
