Gerald Eugene “Butch” Sauer, 78 passed away peacefully on 29 November 2020 in his Niceville, FL residence.
Gerald was born on 12 Sept 1942, in Richmond, Indiana, the son of George and Melba (Porter) Sauer.
Gerald joined the U.S. Air Force in his early years and excelled in his ranks as a computer operator and later as a supply supervisor. During his 27 plus years of service to the country, he served in Vietnam, S. Korea, and several parts of the United States to include TX, FL, and OH. He was awarded the highest Air Force medals and reached the second-highest enlisted rank of Senior Master Sargent prior to retirement in 1991. After his honorable discharge, he enjoyed his Floridian lifestyle with his wife, the comradery of his close friends, AMVet activities, and Hoosier basketball games.
He is survived by his wife, Ok Ye; his sisters, Joyce Kennedy and Sherry Campbell; his daughter, Gina Heatherly; his granddaughters Savannah and Sydney Heatherly, and step-daughter Chin Suk King. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Melba Sauer; and his siblings, Charles Sauer, Robert Sauer, Katherine Lewis, George Emery Sauer Jr, and Evelyn Crane. In his loving memory and celebration of his life, Butch’s full military burial ceremony is tentatively scheduled for 29 November 2021 at the Barrancas National Cemetery, Pensacola, FL. The confirmation of the burial date and time will be disseminated to friends and AMVet in late Sept ’21.
