Don Lamb, age 75, of Richmond, Indiana, died Sunday, January 31, 2021.
Born December 24, 1945, in Crab Orchard, Kentucky, to Thomas and Stella D. Bryant Lamb, Don grew up in Greens Fork, Indiana. He served in the National Guard and retired from Perfect Circle (Dana) Plant 5 before buying the Coney Island Tavern with Jack Wilson in 1988. Donnie proudly owned and operated the Coney for more than thirty years.
Sports were more than a hobby for him, they were a way of life. Donnie was a longtime supporter and volunteer for First Tee – Indiana in Richmond, and when he wasn’t out on the golf course, he could often be found watching the IU Hoosiers play. He also enjoyed traveling, and over the years spent many happy weeks with his daughters and grandkids at the beach in Florida. Don was a former member of the Elks Lodge #649 (although over the years he most often golfed at Highland) and a familiar face at local spots like the American Legion, VFW, Smiley’s, Legends, Sheridan Pub, and at the old Powerhouse, where he regularly met his buddies for breakfast. Everyone knew Donnie Lamb, and to know him was to love him.
A family man through and through, he is survived by his daughters, Susan Persons of Richmond and Saundra Peck of New Smyrna Beach, Florida; grandchildren, Heather Waters of New York and Trent (Justine) Waters of Florida; great-grandchildren, Camden and Elizabeth; sisters, Norma (Bill) Rodefer of Florida and Ruth (Quentin) Knapp of Pendleton, Indiana; brothers, Kenny (Wilma) Lamb and Tom (Kathy) Lamb, both of Richmond; nieces; nephews; cousins; and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Nadine Via and Loretta Robinson; and brother, Robert Lamb.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, services for Don were private, and he was buried at Earlham Cemetery on Sunday, February 7, 2021.
