David S. Carter, age 82, of Richmond, Indiana, died Friday, January 15, 2021, at Reid Health.

Born March 24, 1938, in Dayton, Ohio, to George and Ruth Stott Carter, Dave lived in Richmond most of his life. He graduated from Richmond High School. Dave served in the Army National Guard. He was a member of First United Methodist Church and Elks Lodge 649 and former member of the FOP Lodge 63. Dave was a sales representative for San Antonio Shoemakers (SAS) for 27 years, having retired in 2011. He loved fishing and animals.

Survivors include his daughters, Kelly (Stephen) Stars-Loesch of Indianapolis, Indiana, and Shannon Carter-Carpenter of St. Louis, Missouri; grandchildren, Becky (Joel) De Jesus, Scott E. (Mandy) Stars, Evan M. (Jenny) Stars, and Corey (Alyssa) Carpenter; great-grandchildren, Kennedy Grace Stars, Emery Renee Stars, Mekenzie De Jesus, Maggie Wallace, Riley Wallace, and Hudson Michael Stars; brother-in-law, Robert Hildreth of Richmond, nieces; nephews; cousins; and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Janice E. Hildreth Carter, who died December 26, 2016; parents; son, Brett Carter; and granddaughter, Melanie Loesch.

Due to the current COVID-19 situation, we regret to inform you that services for David S. Carter will be private. Burial will be in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens. Arrangements are being handled by Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond.
