Catherine V. Rutherford, 100, of Richmond died November 18, 2021, at Ambassador Healthcare after a short illness. She was born October 4, 1921, in Wilmington, North Carolina to George and Willie Thigpen Cannon and lived in Richmond since 1969.
She was a homemaker and the oldest living Wayne County veteran from World War Two. She was a member of LifeStream Church and the Kirk Little VFW Post #1108.
Survivors include her husband of 75 years William, her son Mark (Karen) Rutherford of Milan, her daughter Sandra Romack of Richmond, five grandchildren Angela (Erik) Linde, Jessica (Andy) Cox, Chad Romack, Matt Rutherford, Linsay (John) Eshcoff, nine great-grandchildren, one sister Jennie Elizabeth James, nieces and nephews, and special friends Fanny and Bob Marshal. She is preceded in death by her parents, two sisters Juanita Potter and Jane Cannon, and her son-in-law George Romack.
Private memorial services will be held later with burial at Cravens Cemetery in Milan.
