NEW PARIS, Ohio – Carolyn May McWhinney, age 92, of New Paris, Ohio, passed away peacefully Wednesday, December 15, 2021, at home surrounded by her family.

Born May 30, 1929, in New Paris, Ohio, to Frank and Gertrude Hawley Wesler, Carolyn was a life-long resident of this community. She graduated from Jefferson High School in 1947 and attended Ohio State University. Carolyn was known for her beautiful piano playing, as well as being a farmer’s wife and stay at home mom. She was a member of Central United Methodist Church in Richmond. Carolyn enjoyed tending flowers, gardening, reading, quilting, and needlework. She also loved watching her grandchildren grow up playing in and around the pool and participating in various sports.

Survivors include her children, Ellen (Dale) Hall, Tom (Lori) McWhinney, Ed (Vickie) McWhinney, and Gina (Randy) Ballinger, all of New Paris; grandchildren, Carolyn (Rick) Thalls of Richmond, Michael (Tracy) Hall of Mead, Colorado, Scott (Jen) McWhinney of Richmond, Johnny McWhinney of New Paris, Tim (Kelly) McWhinney of Bloomington, Indiana, Jennifer (Chaz) Boggs of Lewisburg, Ohio, Tony (Kristen) McWhinney of Eaton, Ohio, Angela (David) Votta of Alpharetta, Georgia, Bradley (Claire) Ballinger and Daniel (Meg) Ballinger, both of Milford, Ohio, and Andrew Ballinger of New Paris; great-grandchildren, R.J. and Gracie Thalls, Desiree and Ryder Hall, Zach, Aiden, Emma, Blakely, and Mia McWhinney, Bryndle, Breeley, and Brielle Boggs, Brady and Adrianna Votta, Elizabeth and Colette Ballinger, and two on the way; brothers, Meredith (Wanda) Wesler and Beryl (Phyllis) Wesler, both of New Paris; nieces; nephews; cousins; and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Norlan E. McWhinney, who died January 24, 2009; great-grandson, Noah McWhinney; parents; and brother, Duane Wesler.

Visitation for Carolyn May McWhinney will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Sunday, December 19, 2021, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond. An additional visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 20, 2021, at the funeral home. Funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 20, 2021, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home with Pastor Joseph Seger officiating. Burial will be in Spring Lawn Cemetery, New Paris.
