Carol Lynn Bullock, age 61, of Hagerstown, was received into God’s care, peacefully, on Tuesday, June 29, 2021, at St. Vincent’s in Anderson, surrounded by her loving family.

Born April 8, 1960 to Lynn and Donna Swoveland, she was the youngest of five siblings: Donald Swoveland, Linda Patterson, Nancy Smith, and Kathy Denny. Being the youngest of the family, many say she was the spoiled child of the group. But, most importantly, her family, especially her father Lynn, instilled in Carol a sense of selfless service to all people.

Carol is most recognized for the eighteen years she dedicated to the Church Women United Thrift Shop of Hagerstown, where her many long hours of unloading, sorting, cleaning, and displaying of merchandise contributed to the greatest sales in the shop’s history, which led to tens of thousands of dollars being distributed to local high school seniors as part of the scholarship program offered annually by the CWU. After her retirement from the Thrift Shop, she still had a passion to serve her community, and so took it upon herself to establish Carol’s Toy Store on Main Street, where she refurbished toys of all shapes, sizes, and ages, that brought tremendous joy to all the children, both young and old, that frequented the store. It was Carol’s commitment to ensure that each toy that left the store was clean, in good working order and free from missing parts. That brought the greatest smile to her face.

In the later years of her life, Carol battled with breast cancer, which she became a survivor of in 2017, and most recently with end-stage liver failure. Yet through all of the pain and suffering of this late stage of her life, she never lost the love for her family and friends and most importantly her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Her attitude and positive outlook on life allowed her to minister to so many people in such a special way that her life on this earth was a blessing to each and every person she encountered. Her love and compassion for all those she came into contact is a lasting legacy that will not soon be forgotten.

Carol will be deeply missed by her husband, Robert Bullock; son, Allan Bullock & wife, Suzanne; granddaughter Emmalee; brother Donald Swoveland (Sharon); sisters Linda Patterson (Larry), Nancy Smith, and Kathy Denny (Roy).

She was preceded in death by her parents Lynn and Donna Swoveland.

Visitation will be Monday, July 5, 2021, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Culberson Funeral Home, Hagerstown. Graveside services will be at 11:00 AM on Tuesday at Brick Cemetery.  Rev. Robert Fannin will officiate.
