Carol E. Carpenter, 73, of Warsaw, Indiana passed away on December 2, 2021 at Life’s Journey of Avon Hospice after a courageous 11 year battle with lung cancer. She was born on November 3, 1948 in Richmond, Indiana to Mary Louise Fleming Haid and Lionel J. Haid. She graduated from Richmond High School in 1966, where she was a member of the Devilettes, Student Council, Y-Teens and 4-H. Carol went on to attend Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana, earning her associates degree in 1968.

Carol begrudgingly accepted a dinner date with Noble Carpenter at a Jaycees convention when a mutual friend gave Noble her dinner ticket and declared if she wanted to eat, she would have to find him. Six months later, on December 29, 1974 the pair wed and moved to Warsaw, Indiana where she worked for DePuy for almost 37 years, retiring in 2011.

Carol was an avid golfer, enjoying many ladies and couples leagues, achieving a hole-in-one and Stonehenge women’s player of the year throughout her golf career. She enjoyed volunteering with Tri-Kappa, serving on the United Way Board, and ushering at the Wagon Wheel Theater over the years. She spent hours sewing costumes for Halloween, dance recitals, and school plays. Many more hours watching dance recitals, school plays, choir concerts, cheerleading, football, volleyball, baseball, soccer, lacrosse, tennis, basketball, golf, and track meets in any weather to cheer on her children and grandchildren.

Carol enjoyed many wonderful travels with her husband and friends to Europe, the UK, Antigua, Rhode Island, and the Caribbean; Family Ski vacations and trips to Disney. She especially loved reconnecting with her high school girlfriends and taking several road trips with her “Yayas.”

Carol is survived by daughters Carin (Tony) Plothow of Plymouth, Crista (Mike Vetter) Carpenter of Avon, and son Craig (Liz) Carpenter of Indianapolis, grandchildren Allison Shook (Shannda Martin), Tyler (Audrey) Shook, Andria Shook (Sam Houston), Haley Plothow, Reagan Plothow, Audriana Plothow, Annaliese Plothow, Grace Carpenter, Benjamin Carpenter, Claire Carpenter, Adeline Vetter, great-grandchildren Ava Shook, Noelin Shook, and Bowie Shook, sisters-in-law Bonnie Slick, Marjorie Holderman, Mary (Darrell) McIntire, brother-in-law Max (Linda) King and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Carol is preceded in death by her husband, parents, a brother, Ray Slick, a sister, Sharon Sue Slick, a grandson, Samuel Quinn Carpenter, and brother-in-law Louis Holderman.

Visitation will be held from 4:00-8:00 pm, Friday, December 10, 2021 in Mishler Funeral Home, 2030 St Rd 331, Bremen. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, December 11, 2021 in the funeral home with one hour of visitation prior. Burial will follow in the Bremen Cemetery.
